THE number of cyclists on British roads soared by 200,000 last year, but campaign group CTC says more must be done to keep them safe.
“You can kill someone with your driving and get a minor fine- that’s no deterrent. Compared with the loss of the family, these sentences are laughable,” said spokeswoman Rhia Weston.
Road safety charity Brake wants 20mph limits to be implemented in built-up areas and drivers to go 20mph even where the 30 limit remains.
Spokesman Martin Howard said: “Everyone in the West Midlands should be able to walk and cycle in their community without fear or threat. It’s a basic right, and this is about defending that.”
