THE family of a 10-year-old Olton girl whose life was saved by a string of heart operations is celebrating the completion of the £2million Children’s Heart Appeal for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Charlie Ramsey’s family donated an astounding £64,000 to the appeal, which has allowed the hospital to build a state- of-the-art hybrid heart operating theatre.
Charlie was one of the original ‘poster girls’ for the appeal when it was launched nearly two years ago and her picture appeared on billboards all over Birmingham.
Charlie was diagnosed with a complex cardiac problem in the womb, when mother Sandra was just 20 weeks pregnant. And at just six hours old, she was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for open heart surgery.
Sandra said: “It was a really terrifying time but we were glad she’d been taken somewhere so good for her surgery.
“It’s absolutely fantastic the £2million has been raised. It’s very humbling to see how generous people are.”
