A PENSIONER has admitted attempting to smuggle indecent films of young boys into Birmingham Airport.

A PENSIONER has admitted attempting to smuggle indecent films of young boys into Birmingham Airport.

Customs officers discovered two DVDs with sexually explicit material involving boys aged as young as eight, in the luggage of Malcolm Coley when he was intercepted on a flight back from Thailand on February 29.

The DVD covers, which contained pornographic stills of the material, had been removed and hidden separately in another part of Coley’s luggage, Solihull Magistrates Court heard.

The 66-year-old, of Cinder Road, Gornal Wood, Dudley, pleaded guilty to six counts of possessing indecent films and images of children aged under 13, which ranged from Level 1 to 4.

He also admitted one count of importing indecent or obscene articles.

Mr Latham, defending, said there was no evidence that his client had any other indecent images in his possession.

“He was of good character,” he said. “This came to our attention back in February. His home and computer will have been subject to searches since then but no further charges have come forward.”

He added the films had been for Coley’s personal use only.

Solihull Magistrates deemed their powers of sentencing insufficient for the case which was committed to Birmingham Crown Court for January 8.
