I WAS out of the office last Friday (April 1) when I’m told the rest of the News editorial staff had to fend off calls from irate readers (and Solihull Council) in response to our ‘little joke’ that had appeared in that day’s edition.
The article in question stated that residents would all be getting giant bins to hold a month’s rubbish and that the contract had been awarded to a Danish firm with a spokesman by the name of Loof Lirpa.
Householders were invited to paint their bins in pastel colours to match the landscape.
Those who did not ‘get it’ were fuming but there were some who did realise it was a jape but still got hot under the collar about others getting worried etc.
However, many of our readers did see the funny side and I took a call from a chuckling pensioner on Monday morning who said she had thoroughly enjoyed the joke and it had brightened up her weekend.
What a relief there is still a sense of humour out there somewhere!
PS Don’t vote for Councillor M T Yarone in May!
