A step too far

Sadly over the last two years Heart of England Foundation Trust’s chief executive Mark Goldman and board have reneged on their promises. Thus we in Solihull feel disillusioned and cruelly let down at this disgraceful situation. We strongly share Editor’s (Viewpoint, January 15) disgust.

Ten years ago we organised an 85,000 people petition demonstrating our anger, we now want up to 100,000 people to sign.

The Trust’s claim that the maternity unit’s reduction from handling 2,700 to about 600, may only be temporary is unbelievable and we really suspect their actual intention is permanent downsizing or eventual closure.

Lorely Burt MP, Caroline Spelman MP, Maggie Throup and Councillor Jim Ryan, plus many mothers and campaigners are right to say Solihull Maternity service must be and can be upgraded, rather than downgraded.

This Trust has lost our trust, they are out of touch, unelected and unaccountable. Government must at once threaten to suspend its foundation status whilst shaking up both boards. Unless Dr Goldman becomes more flexible he should consider his future.
