SHIRLEY chef Aaron Darnley has cooked up a storm at this month’s Rising Young Star competition.
Aaron, aged 22, who works at Birmingham’s Edmunds restaurant, went up against cooks from around the country.
In the Masterchef-style challenge, the contestants were given a basket of surprise ingredients and had to whip up two main courses - in just an hour.
The heated final took place at the University College Birmingham last Monday (June 6).
Aaron’s seafood dishes impressed the judges and the young cook has won a trip to a renowned food festival in Norway.
“It was very special to win this award, you had to think on your feet,” said the former Light Hall School pupil.
“I’ve entered several events in the past three and a half years, but this was probably my favourite.”
In the past he has competed at culinary events in Dublin and as far afield as Chile.
