‘Mr Guest’ quotes from the minutes of Balsall Parish Council which state that £200 would be paid to help the Bugle to set up a new team to run the Bugle (Letters).

However, he conveniently forgets to say that also in the minutes it states it was to fund the publication of an important survey on the bus services in the village. In other words it was a fee for advertorial to be published in our independent community magazine. The bus survey will be published in the next edition of the Bugle.

He then infers there was some collusion between Mrs Lea who is on the parish council and Mr Lea who is treasurer of the Bugle. The reason the Parish Council made its unanimous decision to allocate £200 from its Village Plan budget to place the advertorial in the Bugle was because the magazine is delivered to every household and business in the village – over 3,000 in total.

Mr and Mrs Lea are well-respected figures in the local community and to question their honesty is nothing short of vindictive.

Perhaps ‘Mr Guest’ does not appreciate that the Bugle is a Community Interest Company – in other words a properly formed company registered at Companies House.

This means that no-one who works on the magazine and is a director of the company – and that is six of us – can take any monies at all from the revenue.

In fact we all work voluntarily for the magazine.

It also means that the Bugle has to compile formal accounts and details of its activities and submit these to Companies House each year. And these are made public!

There are overheads for design, printing and delivery but any monies over and above these costs, after four issues, will be donated to local charities and community projects, thus meeting our constitution pledge.

If ‘Mr Guest’ would stop spreading such gossip we could get on with our priority activities of publishing a community magazine and raising cash for the local community

No calendar

Further to the ‘Bin puzzle’ letter (published April 9) we also didn’t receive a Garden Waste Collection Calendar. I phoned Solihull Connect who quickly gave me the information but didn’t offer an explanation.
