AWARD-winning poet Simon Armitage was among four eminent authors to visit Arden School, Knowle, last week.
Also dropping in were two Carnegie Medal winners, Susan Price and Gillian Cross, and newcomer to young adult fiction, Martyn Bedford.
Over 200 students got to meet one of the visitors while even more had the chance to hear Mr Armitage reciting from his work.
Staff said this was the biggest event the Arden English department had ever run to encourage pupils with their reading and writing.
Simon Armitage also echoed advice constantly given to pupils, when he was asked how he acquired such a large vocabulary, his answer was simple: “Reading.”
Arden’s Principal Martin Murphy said: “We are confident our students have been inspired and enthused by this amazing opportunity.”
