Cadets of 1459 (Heart of England) squadron recently held their presentation evening to celebrate their achievements for 2010. Wing Commander Pravi Ladwa presented cadets with their awards in front of an audience of families and friends.
Awards were made for academic and sporting achievements, including gliding scholarships, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and ATC awards and promotions. The squadron is one of the leading squadrons for Duke of Edinburgh Awards in the Birmingham and Warwickshire Wing, with cadets receiving Bronze, Silver and Gold awards during the past year.
Last year, two of the cadets attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the cadet organisation. Cadets also participated in remembrance day parades and collecting on behalf of Solihull Royal Air Force Association Wings Appeal. The cadets have also created a squadron web page www.1459aircadets.co.uk so that cadets can keep up to date with what’s happening in the squadron.
Any youngsters between 13 and 18 who are interested in joining the squadron can visit their web page or come along to the squadron parades, on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, at Hadfield Way off Cooks Lane. Or phone the Commanding Officer Flt Lt Watson on 07588 473670 to find out more.
