AN addict stole over £100 worth of fuel from a Chelmsley Wood petrol station to pay for drugs, a court has heard.

Working with an accomplice, Fazal Farooq was driven to the BP petrol station, on Chester Road, on August 23 where he filled four containers with diesel, and then left without paying.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to theft at Solihull Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police caught the suspects and found the containers full of diesel. Farooq’s unnamed accomplice has already been sentenced, the court heard.

In his defence, the bench was told Farooq, of Bedworth Grove, Bordesley Green, has been battling drug addiction and had stolen the fuel to feed his habit.

He was given a 12 month community order, placed under a 12 month supervision order and told to pay £25 towards costs.
