A QUARTER century of voluntary service to Age Concern, now known as Age UK, by a Solihull resident has been formally recognised by the award of a special certificate of thanks.

At a recent Age UK volunteers luncheon Mrs Carol May of Muswell Close, Solihull, was presented with the ‘Volunteer Service Award’ by borough mayor, Councillor Ken Hawkins accompanied by the Mayoress, his wife Janet Hawkins.

Carol’s voluntary work for Age UK involves her regularly visiting many elderly ladies to provide them with company and to run shopping errands.

“It was the best thing I ever did,” said Carol, “when I joined Age Concern as a Visitor all those years ago.

“There is never a dull moment and my visits really make the day for many of the ladies.

“The staff at Age UK are great and are only a phone call away should I need any support.”

Carol’s attendance at the ceremony was certainly a memorable trip and in more ways than one: “When I went up to receive my certificate,” said Carol, “I accidentally tripped over the Mayor’s foot but fortunately the Mayoress was there to catch me!”
