I AM a taxi driver in Solihull. I normally visit Birmingham Airport 10 to 12 times every day for pick-up and drop-off.
It has been a while since the airport authority closed the usual pick-up and drop-off area for security reasons and they let people use the short stay car park instead.
Unfortunately to use this facility we have to pay £1 every time for pick-up and drop-off, whereas at our next nearest airport, East Midlands, they let people use the short stay car park for the first 10 minutes free of charge.
Also Birmingham Airport has recently started to charge £1 every time to use a trolley. What will be next?
Most people use side roads for pick-up and drop-off to avoid paying £1. Some of them are getting a £30 fixed penalty for pulling up on double red lines. Why is it happening? It’s clear - people are not happy to pay £1 at the short stay car park.
