Airport to get body scanners

FULL-body scanners will be introduced to Birmingham International Airport by the end of this month.

FULL-body scanners will be introduced to Birmingham International Airport by the end of this month.

The machines have proven controversial, because they make passengers appear naked - but only a random selection of people will have to pass through them.

It was announced on Monday the equipment would become compulsory at all UK airports, in the hope of reducing the threat of terrorist attacks.

An airport spokesman confirmed the technology was expected to be up-and-running at BIA by the close of February.

Lord Adonis, who made Monday’s announcement, said airports will be banned from selecting passengers on the basis of their race or ethnicity.”
