AN American greetings card firm has stepped in to rescue hundreds of Clinton stores, including the three under threat in Solihull.

Ohio-based American Greetings plans to take over the 397 remaining Clinton stores after the brand collapsed into administration a month ago.

The future of the stores in Mill Lane, Touchwood and Shirley was in doubt after administrators Zolfo Cooper announced the closure of 350 branches nationwide.

But this week administrators have announced that Lakeshore Lending Ltd, a subsidiary of American Greetings, intends to acquire all three outlets.

Peter Saville, Joint Administrator and Partner at Zolfo Cooper, said: “We would like to thank the staff for their dedication and patience throughout what has been an understandably difficult time for all concerned and we wish both them and the new owners of the business every success for the future.”
