KNOWLE and Dorridge Lions are celebrating another record year, raising almost £57,000 for charity.
Last month, the group held their annual presentation evening for sponsors at the Greswolde Hotel.
The Knowle Fun Run, the Solihull Bikeathon and the Lions Festive Walk have attracted record-breaking numbers over the past 12 months.
At the presentation, a total of £31,000 was presented to three good causes - Macmillan Cancer Support, Whizz-Kidz and Lions Campaign SightFirst II.
President Peter Smith said that the sponsor’s support had been crucial, particularly in the midst of recession.
“It’s great for our club of 25 volunteers to celebrate such success again, but without help from sponsors like yourselves in such difficult trading times our events would never realise so much for charity.
“We sincerely hope that the recession will not affect the generosity of our sponsors for next year.”
The remaining money has been spent on local causes, such as coach outings for the elderly and events for disabled children.
Funds also go towards the Lions’ Youth Travel Bursary, which has helped three lucky people follow their dreams overseas. Among the recent recipients was Jenny Hawkin, a former Arden School pupil who went to teach at a Tibetan orphanage.
