MIDLAND jeweller Rex Johnson & Sons is re-opening a former Crown Post Office building in Sheldon as a gold buying and, in due course, cheque cashing and pawn broking centre.
‘Rex Johnson Online’ in Sheldon Shopping Centre on Coventry Road will be officially opened at 11am on Wednesday May 20 by TV personality and antiques expert David Dickinson. For the past 12 months, David has been the focus of a massive gold buying campaign for Rex Johnson & Sons whose shops are in Corporation Street, Birmingham and Birdcage Walk, Dudley.
It is the second site of its kind to be re-launched by the long-established family business in less than a month, the first was opened in Coventry city centre at the end of April.
It will be open from 9.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Saturday to buy all types of unwanted gold jewellery, gold wrist and pocket watches, coins and medals. Its pawn broking service will be an added bonus for those seeking alternative financial arrangements.
David Johnson, managing director of Rex Johnson & Sons and co-director of Rex Johnson Online, said: “The overwhelming response has prompted the early opening in Sheldon – originally scheduled for later this year. People are realising that there is ready cash tied up in their old, broken or unwanted jewellery and are coming in to sell it while gold prices remain high.”
David added: “Pawn broking is another way to secure money against valuable items knowing that they have not gone forever. The former image of pawn broking is way in the past and it is now a well-accepted activity. This is especially true in London where more and more of the leading names in jewellery are opening up prominent high street locations.”
Rex Johnson Online is scheduled to open further outlets throughout the region during 2009 – all former Post Office sites.
