Applications logged for two casinos

A LARGE casino could be sited at the NEC or Shirley after Solihull Council received two applications for the grant of a licence.

A LARGE casino could be sited at the NEC or Shirley after Solihull Council received two applications for the grant of a licence.

Genting Casinos UK limited wants to run a casino at the NEC while Grosvenor Casinos Limited have opted for the former Dave & Buster site (Otium Leisure Park), in Highlands Road, Shirley.

Solihull Council said: “If both applications meet the initial criteria, the council will begin the second stage of the application process, where each applicant will outline the benefits that their large casino will bring to the borough.

“The licence will then be awarded to the applicant who would, in the council’s opinion, bring the greatest economic, financial and social benefits to the area.

“The successful applicant will be awarded a licence to operate a large casino at the appropriate location.”

Concerned Monkspath resident Julia Lock spotted the application posted on the Dave & Busters site. Julia from Thornton Road said: “The signs are tiny but are they genuine?”

Objections can be made in writing by Friday August 27 2010 and sent to gmorrice@solihull.gov.uk or sent to The Licensing Manager, P O Box 1833, Council House, Solihull, B91 9DZ.

A report will be submitted to Members of the Solihull Licensing Committee on September 15.
