Arson appeal after Balsall Common blaze

POLICE need the public’s help to find those responsible for an arson attack which saw 14 homes evacuated in a village street.

POLICE need the public’s help to find those responsible for an arson attack which saw 14 homes evacuated in a village street.

Last month, the Solihull News reported on the late-night panic in Grovefield Crescent, Balsall Common, after a car was set alight outside a resident’s home.

The flames spread to two other vehicles parked on the drive and then to the house itself.

Neighbours’ homes had to be evacuated because the fire spread to a gas meter - causing a leak.

Police have confirmed the blaze, started around 12.30am on Wednesday July 25, was arson.

Two men, both white and in their late teens, were spotted running from the scene. One had distinctive, mousey brown, spiky hair.

DC Fleur Buxton said: “We believe that there may have been a small group of men and women arguing just before the incident and are keen to trace them.

“A black Ford Focus and a silver hatchback were also seen and we would really like to speak to the occupants of the cars.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
