POLICE are seeking a fire-raiser after an arson attack on a car repair business in north Solihull.

POLICE are seeking a fire-raiser after an arson attack on a car repair business in north Solihull.

Five vehicles in a compound were damaged at Harborne Accident Repair Centre (Fordbridge) Ltd in Burhill Way, on Waterloo Industrial Estate at Bacon’s End, near Chelmsley Wood.

Firecrews from Sheldon, Bickenhill and Ward End were called out just after 10pm on Tuesday (June 2) and managing to prevent flames engulfing a nearby repair shop, although cladding and fittings were damaged.

Sheldon-based watch commander Steve Ray said: “It took about an hour to bring the fire under control. It was just about impinging on the building when we got there but we managed to prevent the fire spreading.

“We had a couple of explosions but nothing more than we would expect from burning vehicles.”

A company spokeswoman said yesterday (Thursday) that business was not affected and the fire brigade did a good job to save the building.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the fire was being treated as arson. Anyone with information should call Chelmsley Wood police on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
