EXPERIENCE ‘a lil bit of Bim’ at a Barbados Cultural Day in Solihull this Sunday.
Sir Garfield Sobers, the former West Indies captain, will be guest of honour at the event, which features a mix of cricket, cuisine and culture at Blossomfield Cricket Club, Widney Lane.
A Barbadian team will play an English XI in a Twenty20 friendly and as well as a veterans’ game there will be music from fêted calypsonian Lil Rick and the celebrated Bajan Revellers Carnival Band.
No Bajan day would be complete without some Banks Legends beer, macaroni pie and chicken, flying fish, and rice and peas.
There will also be cultural presentations, exhibitors, traders, seminars, a picnic area and a kids zone.
Petra Roach from Barbados Tourism Authority UK said: “We hope that people from all over will join us for a classic celebration of everything that makes our culture and heritage the most impressive of all the Caribbean islands. ”
Blossomfield was selected as a venue because of its links with the country.
Tickets are £3 for adults and £1 for children in advance, or £5 for adults and £2 for children on the door. Children under 10 go free.
The event runs from 11am to 7.30pm.
