HUNDREDS of people have tuned-in to a new community radio station, launched last month.
Berkswell Windmill Radio takes its name from the local landmark – originally built in 1826 – which is currently undergoing restoration work.
The show was intended as a one-off broadcast in the memory of Stan Watkins, a windmill tour guide who died earlier this year, aged 86.
But Liam Sawyer, the Balsall Common teenager who hosts the shows, said he was bowled over when broadcasts attracted over 200 listeners.
“I was expecting a fraction of that,” said the 14-year-old, who presents the programme from the family farm. “There’s been a lot of interest locally, and the number of listeners has shot up.”
