Jean and Cyril Burnett, of Fernhill Road, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on March 8, just three months before the pomp and circumstance of the Jubilee hits Britain.
“We married at the same time - we should be getting something,” Mrs Burnett joked.
The couple met back in 1948 at the Dame Elizabeth Cadbury’s Dance Hall in Stechford when Cyril asked Jean to dance. Four years later they were married and the former master builder and dinner lady supervisor have never looked back.
“I must have made a good choice!” said Mr Burnett, aged 89.
Mrs Burnett, aged 81, added: “I suppose it’s quite rare to reach the 60th anniversary.
“We just share everything, we discuss everything. We don’t really have any rows. The family have kept us going.”
She added that younger couples did not realise that marriage could also be hard work.
“It’s all too easy now. The first little upset and they walk out.
“They want everything straight away, we just had to make do. We used blackout curtains when we were first married.”
The Burnetts will be celebrating their anniversary with a party for friends and family on Saturday March 10, arranged by their children Linda and John.
