Blue badge guidelines

LAST week we reported how disabled Richard Carpenter was issued with a parking ticket while on his way to renew his blue badge.

LAST week we reported how disabled Richard Carpenter was issued with a parking ticket while on his way to renew his blue badge.

Although the matter was sorted out and Solihull Council immediately rescinded the fine they have issued guidelines for blue badge holders to prevent further incidents of tickets being issued.

A spokesperson said: "To help us we urge badge hold-ers to make sure their blue badge is displayed at all times and in the correct way as given in their guidance notes.

Blue badge holders are not required to bring in their existing badges when renewing them until they have been issued with a new badge to replace it.

"We send reminders to renew badges six weeks before the badge expires. We urge that they do this as soon as possible. This will help avoid any problems and avoid the risk of parking without a valid badge."
