Blues Brothers Show review

The Blues Brothers The Smash Hit Approved, Coventry Belgrade.

The Blues Brothers The Smash Hit Approved, Coventry Belgrade.

BASED on the cult eighties film starring Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi, Jake and Elwood Blues are ‘on a mission from God’ to get their blues band back together.

With pork pie hats and sunglasses firmly in place, Jake (Brad Henshaw) and Elwood (Chris Chandler) recapture the high energy, fast paced show.

Joined by the fabulous ‘Bluettes’ (Alexus Ruth, Jenny Fitzpatrick and Jenessa Qua), the brothers rock, roll and occasionally crash through the film’s favourite hits like Everyone Needs Somebody to Love, Minnie the Moocher and Jailhouse Rock.

There are even a few unexpected bonuses such as their version of The Beatles’ With A Little Help From My Friends.

Both Brothers gave impressive vocal performances, and while Henshaw cartwheels and dances round the stage, harmonica-playing Fletcher manages to capture Ackroyd’s original deadpan persona.

Mainly focused on the music, Blues Brothers had the audience, many of whom were sporting their own shades and pork pie hats, dancing in the aisles.

Whether you’ve seen the film or not, the show spells a great night out for any fans of soul.

Until May 4.
