I AM somewhat concerned that the new bottle collection system means that my wife's predilection to gin and mine to wine is exposed for all to see at the garden gate!
My wife doesn't see what I am complaining about. But then again she can't see anything much after about mid-morning any day.
But my main concern is that after years of trying in my befuddled state to sort brown bottle from green bottle and green bottle from clear bottle to ensure they go into the correct bin, otherwise they are no good for recycling to the glass furnaces, our new collection service dumps them all in the same truck.
Not only that, but to ensure a maximum load the compactor in the refuse truck is applied, thus crushing many of those not broken when slung into the back by the workmen.
I am aware that crushed glass can be used as a road surfacing material but my understanding is that the most carbon beneficial use of recycled glass is in glass making.
Has our council got it wrong again?
