Breastfeeding service delight over prestigious status award

UNICEF has awarded the Solihull Breastfeeding Service the prestigious stage two accreditation as part of their Baby Friendly Initiative.

UNICEF has awarded the Solihull Breastfeeding Service the prestigious stage two accreditation as part of their Baby Friendly Initiative.

The service, part of Solihull NHS Primary Care Trust, has been working with midwives, health visitors, nursery nurses and children centre staff across the borough to ensure support is available for mums and to raise awareness on the benefits of breast feeding.

They have also launched a Solihull breastfeeding directory for where mums and mums-to-be can offer each other support and get professional advice as well as local shops and cafes where they are welcome to breastfeed their babies.

Carmen Baskerville, infant feeding co-ordinator, said: “It is really good that we have been recognised.”

Solihull Breastfeeding Service is now working towards full accreditation at Stage three, which means Baby Friendly standards should be implemented for all pregnant women and new mothers.

For advice from the service call the team on 07970811026.
