THE buzz from the audience as they streamed out of the theatre was that they had just witnessed the best panto ever - and who am I to disagree?

Indeed this was more than a panto but pure showbiz entertainment from beginning to end with Brian Conley outstanding in the lead role.

But the real strength of the production was that it didn’t just rely on his talents alone but on those of a fantastic supporting cast too.

Lesley Joseph was fantastic as The Enchantress, Gavin Woods’ baddie Blackheart the Pirate suitably horrible while Andrew Ryan’s pantomime dame Mrs Crusoe brought the house down - again and again.

Throw in the Mazeppa Cossacks, Solihull’s own Kathryn Rooney, great songs, lights, action and infectious, glorious laughs galore and you won’t regret for a second the price of your ticket.

Not only that, but Conley, who played on with what he admitted was a ‘stinking cold’ heaped praise too on the Hippodrome Theatre saying you wouldn’t get a show like this in the West End. So here’s to Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates which runs until January 27, 2013.
