MODERATE Solihull Council does a fairly good job of sharing out limited finance.
They are now wisely (but belatedly) supporting urgent building in both the north and south of the borough of much more social housing with affordable rents. This will be actively supplemented by 3 Star Solihull Community Housing and partners, plus the promise of Government money.
As SCH tenants' scrutiny representative to Solihull Council, I firmly believe in short and long term - especially with the credit crunch - this is the only way young people can get onto the housing ladder. Such positive action will also help the building industry and household supplies sectors to gradually recover.
Private house building still remains important, but it should be affordable, whilst - contrary to their past greedy irresponsible ways - banks and building societies must never again tempt people to take on commitments, potentially beyond their ability to pay, thus leading to painful negative equity and possible eviction.
