A BROOM-wielding thug attacked a helpless man in Hockley Heath as he stopped to check the welfare of his father’s cows.
The unprovoked assault took place in the pitch black on leafy Cut Throat Lane last Friday night and left the man with an 8cm gash to his head as well as other cuts and bruises.
The man and his girlfriend parked their vehicle in the gateway opposite the entrance to Delta Force at 10.15pm so that they could check on a cow which was due to give birth.
They spotted a silver Mercedes parked up but it was only on returning to their car that they saw three men in the vehicle.
They asked him whether he was checking up on them before assaulting him with a broken broom handle. They then drove off leaving him in the road to nurse his injuries.
The injured man was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch where he received stitches and was detained overnight.
The offenders are described as white males, one of whom was short and wearing grey tracksuit trousers and top.
Police investigating the incident would like to hear from anyone who saw the silver vehicle parked in the layby or has any information which would help them with their enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to call Alcester police station on 01789 762207 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
