THREE pupils from Saint Martin’s School recently won a national writing competition and were invited to London to accept their awards.
Vicky Cox, Zoe Eales and Briony Stenhouse - currently studying for their GCSEs - were among the winners of the Parliamentary Press Gallery Young Journalist Competition. The Year 11 pupils had each written a letter addressed to the Prime Minister - highlighting an issue they thought could be changed for the good of the country.
Vicky’s entry was about road safety, Zoe focussed on lowering the abortion limit and Briony wrote about teenage pregnancy.
During their visit to the capital, the trio received awards from the Speaker of the House Michael Martin, took part in journalism workshops and paid a visit to No 10 Downing Street.
The day was rounded off when the girls met their own MP, Lorely Burt.
