WORK has begun on creating the new multi-million pound village centre in North Solihull.
The North Arran Way development, in the heart of Smith’s Wood, is set to transform the area with a brand new high street, shops and offices, health services and housing.
Smith’s Wood Community Primary, built in 2009, will incorporate the parish council community facilities, including a library and gym.
Councillor Ian Courts, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is extremely exciting. What better to bring communities together than a village centre that can be the heart of the local area for young and old alike.”
The centre replaces two old tower blocks and a road is already being created to link it with the surrounding area, due to be completed in October.
This will be followed by construction of a £4m community hub, set to open in the spring.
