Burglar is jailed for 18 months

A BURGLAR who failed to turn up to his court hearing because he didn’t want to spend the weekend behind bars has been handed an 18-month jail sentence.

A BURGLAR who failed to turn up to his court hearing because he didn’t want to spend the weekend behind bars has been handed an 18-month jail sentence.

Isiah Beard, of Campville Grove, Kingshurst should have appeared at Warwick Crown Court on September 23, but failed to show up.

He was re-arrested by police four days later.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Steve Tarver, said: “Officers executed a warrant at an address frequented by Beard and found him relaxing in the living room.

“He was perfectly calm and simply said he didn’t turn-up for sentence as he didn’t want to spend the weekend in the cells.”

Beard had kicked down the front door to a home on Alder Drive, Chelmsley Wood on June 24, stealing £200.

The 21-year-old was also part of a gang of men who broke into a flat in Forth Drive, Chelmsley Wood and stole a laptop, digital camera and a games console.

Beard was captured on CCTV footage and police traced him to his home address where he was arrested and later admitted both offences.

He was given the custodial sentence last Tuesday, September 28.
