ALMOST half the crimes in Solihull are carried out by people who live outside the borough.
Police statistics show that a significant portion of offenders, 43 per cent overall, did not live in Solihull.
Solihull MP Lorely Burt said that the borough might be seen as rich-pickings.
“This statistic does not surprise me, because Solihull has a reputation for being a very affluent area,” she said.
Councillor Len Cresswell, cabinet member for safer communities, said the council would continue to monitor the figures.
“We are aware of offenders from outside the borough and the police and local authority are working together to deal with it,” he said. “Part of this is to liaise with colleagues from nearby areas to identify those causing us harm.”
Recently several burglars from Birmingham have been convicted for offences committed in Solihull. Only this month, serial offenders from Hall Green and West Bromwich were jailed for a string of break-ins - many of which were in the borough.
