TWO former Arden School pupils from Knowle, have been awarded this year’s Knowle and Dorridge Lions Youth Travel Bursary.
Lucy Pickering who recently graduated from Durham University, is a singer and musician and King Edward VI Camp Hill sixth form pupil Imogen Butler set off in August.
Lucy is taking part in an community project at schools in Kathmandu in Nepal, and besides teaching, she is helping street children, supporting victims of domestic violence and contributing to a construction project.
A few thousand miles away, Imogen is seeking to discover the effects of the demolition of the Kowloon Walled City squatter settlement in Hong Kong on the lives of the former residents.
She has travelled to Hong Kong to interview members of the Kau Fong Association and other ex-residents, whilst carrying out research with two ex-Governors.
Lion Barry Dale said: “We had an excellent group of applicants and choosing Imogen and Lucy was not easy. We would like to have had more from Dorridge and surrounding areas. Maybe next year.”
