“It's business as usual.” That’s the message from the owner of an Elmdon hair salon after a car ploughed into its Old Lode Lane premises late last Thursday evening.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, sustained leg and arm injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment after he smashed into Jiggs Hair and Beauty causing potential structural damage.

But owner Jeanette Larsen reassured customers that despite an initial closure the salon was now up-and-running.

“We are open as usual and using the rear entrance to work at the back of the shop.

“It’s cosy but small,” she laughed.

The 38-year-old who co-owns the salon with Karen Bradley, 42, said she rushed to the business in the early hours of Friday morning after receiving a phone call about the collision.

“I went into a bit of shock. You first worry if the driver is okay and then you realise the actual damage.

“The whole area was blocked off and the male in the car was being treated.

‘‘The car was embedded in the building and until they sent him to hospital, they couldn’t remove the car.”

Three staff are employed at the salon, which has been open for eight years.

Mrs Larsen added: “We spent more than £20,000 refurbishing it in 2010 and are proud of how it looks.

“We have always been known for how classy, clean and contemporary it is - we are known as a city salon in Solihull.”
