CITIZENS Advice Bureaux in Shirley and Chelmsley Wood predict that they will see an extra 2,000 people between now and March next year
The local branches were among those to receive a welcome boost from the Government, which has made £10?million available to bureaux up-and-down the country.
The extra money will allow staff to make room for more appointments and deal with the increasing number of people who have been hit by the recession.
Recently the two bureaux held a special evening session to deal with the rise in demand. Now they are planning to hold more pre-bookable appointments during the day and evening. The move is the latest response by local Cabs to a recent surge in visitors. As people grapple with bills and unemployment they are going to the bureaux for help.
Maria Veitch, manager of Shirley CAB said: “This is a great vote of confidence in CAB advice and welcome recognition that bureaux need additional support right now.”
Kerry Turner, who heads up the Chelmsley CAB, said: “As people on low and moderate incomes are struggling to make ends meet at a time of increasing uncertainty about the security of their jobs and incomes, access to reliable, high quality, free, independent advice has never been more vital.”
Anyone in need of advice can either call into the bureaux, or telephone for one of the pre-bookable appointments.
