RAIL commuters were hit by major delays last week, after foolhardy thieves stole metal cable from the railway line near Marston Green Station.
Network Rail were called to the site and spent last Wednesday morning (April 18) restoring power, following the theft of the material overnight.
It’s understood the cable was stolen from a stretch of track between the back of Digby Drive and towards Birmingham International Station.
A resident from nearby Elmdon Road said services between International and Birmingham New Street were delayed for a significant part of the day.
British Transport Police are investigating the incident
n Statistics released earlier this year suggest that cable thefts on rail lines across the region have fallen, but transport officers continue to describe the offence as among their “biggest challenges”. There were 16 thefts between 2011-12, compared to 58 in 2010 and 43 in 2009.
