Acocks Green BID is introducing cardboard cops to cut crimes.

The four life-size cut-out coppers are the latest weapon by the BID (Business Improvement District), in partnership with West Midlands Police, to target shoplifting and anti-social behaviour in the village.

BID manager, Sandy Gianni said they had made the move after the success of a similar trial in Leigh, Manchester.

“The figures speak for themselves,” she said. “You can’t argue with a 75 per cent cut in shoplifting, and we hope it has a similar effect in Acocks Green.

“We are aiming to stamp out shoplifting altogether with the presence of our ‘cut-out-cops’ PC’s Dennis, Dave, Dominic and Dean on duty 24-7, and they don’t even need a lunch break.”
