A care home has launched a competition to honour local military heroes

A SOLIHULL care home is inviting nominations for local military heroes to have a wing named in their honour.

A SOLIHULL care home is inviting nominations for local military heroes to have a wing named in their honour.

Former servicemen and women who have acted heroically, whether that be on the battlefield, overcoming a disability, or even a military’s person spouse or family who have given inspirational support, can now be nominated for the Life Letters competition.

Launched by Royal Star and Garter Homes, it allows three inspirational locals, with a connection to the armed forces, to each have a wing of the borough building named after them.

Sue Tompkins, home manager, said: “We’re appealing to local residents to tell us the inspiring military story of a friend or loved one, in the form of a letter. A Life Letter may weave a tale of love, friendship, service, life’s lucky breaks or challenges. It might be one special moment in time, or it might sum up a lifetime of memories.”

Winners will have a permanent plaque and photograph outside their wing while their stories will go on to be part of an archive and book.

To nominate, email your letter, entitled ‘Solihull Wings Naming Competition’, to lifeletters@starandgarter.org or post your entry to: FREEPOST RLUX-CSXB-KZGG, Life Letters, The Royal Star and Garter Homes, Richmond Hill, Richmond, TW10 6RR.

Closing date for entries is Sunday, November 18.
