ROLL up, roll up - the carnival is in town!

ROLL up, roll up - the carnival is in town!

This Saturday, July 11 promises to be the biggest and best Shirley Lions Carnival with a host of attractions for all the family.

The event promises to be a fun filled day out with activities including Punch and Judy, Period Fencers Guild, magic show and handbag hurling.

Carnival chairman, Lion Martin Conlon, said: “Over the 30 years the Lions have been organising the Carnival, it’s become an increasingly important event on the community’s calendar and the Lions are always looking for new attractions to appear at the Carnival.

“This year we have been very fortunate in securing the Period Fencer’s Guild whose knights will be engaging in medieval sword fighting.”

Solihull Judo Club will be demonstrating their skills and J Js Dancing Group will be showing off some of their moves.

Youngsters can enjoy a bouncy castle and other inflatables, and prizes will be on offer for children’s sports such as sack races and welly wanging.

This year’s theme is Heroes and Villains so the Lions will be running a fancy dress competition on this theme with a cash prize of £50 for both the best dressed boy and girl.

The competition will be open to children of 11 years and under, and originality will score extra points.

Gates open at noon with an entrance fee of £1 for adults and 50p for children and OAPs.

Funds raised will go to the County Air Ambulance.
