SHIRLEY Carnival will be rolling into town with an international flavour next month.
This year’s event, visiting Shirley Park on July 14, is set to be an international day of music and dance.
The jamboree will open with the Shirley Pipe Band, who will be followed by the Shirley Brass Band and the Boil Up Tropical Steel Band. Dance action will be provided by a group of international belly dancers as well as the local Animated Dance Academy.
The highlight of the carnival should be the Nachdey Hasdey, meaning ‘joyous dancing’, Bhangra group who will be performing traditional folk with dancers, singers and dholis (drummers). There will also be the usual stalls and audience participation events.
