A WELL-known Midlands car dealer has been bought by an automotive group taking the company’s number of dealerships to three.
Carstins in Balsall Common has been acquired by the Unity Automotive Group for an undisclosed sum with financial support from Barclays.
The Group, which specialises in the sale of Subarus and Isuzus, has two other dealerships in Tredington near Stratford-upon-Avon and Peterborough and is one of the top performing dealerships in the country.
The Group employs 52 staff across the three sites – a number which is set to increase should the level of sales seen in the first month at the Balsall Common dealership continue.
Jon Mathers, managing director of the Unity Automotive Group and avid car enthusiast, started his career in the parts department of the dealership in Tredington.
Over the years he developed his career, eventually becoming sales director in the mid 1990s. In 2002, at the age of 34, Jon completed a management buy-out of the company before expanding to Peterborough in 2009.
He said: “I have always had an interest in cars, right from a young age when I used to spend time at my father’s garage in Warwick.
“My love for racing cars grew from there and I’m delighted to be working in an industry that I have so much passion for.
“Carstins has for many years had an excellent reputation and we are keen to build on that brand in the years to come.”
