KARREN Brady will no longer be starting Knowle Fun Run, organisers announced this week.
As previously reported in the Solihull News, the well-known businesswoman had been due to start this year’s event.
But the former Birmingham City boss has double-booked herself and will no longer be available for the fundraiser, taking place on May 16.
John Heard, Knowle Fun Run organiser, said: “This is the first time in 10 years we have been let down by any of our celebs, let alone after we have publicised their involvement.
“Her PA advised us today she has double booked herself. We are of course disappointed, as I’m sure many runners will be.”
But the businesswoman, who is appearing in the next series of The Apprentice, is also upset that she has had to pull out.
Ms Brady is known as a staunch supporter of the Teenage Cancer Trust - one of the charities set to benefit from this year’s run.
It’s understood that a close friend has decided to get married on the day, which will prevent her from being there to see the runners off.
“We shall now be looking for a replacement to continue the tradition of having a well-known face to send the runners on their way,” said Mr Heard.
In previous years, Jasper Carrott and Bev Bevan have been among the local celebrities to sound the starting klaxon and present prizes to the fastest athletes.
Organisers Knowle and Dorridge Lions are now looking for someone else to get the proceeding underway.
