The decision has been taken to combine the Solihull News and Solihull Times to create one, big, market-leading product for the borough of Solihull.
The Solihull News, established in the 1930s, and the Solihull Times, launched as a rival to the News in the 1970s, came under the ownership of the same publisher in the 1990s.
This created a situation unique in British publishing – one publisher producing two practically identical weekly newspapers, approaching the same customers, carrying versions of the same news, and going through the same doors every week.
Simple logic dictates that a single product, combining the strengths of the two newspapers, makes much more practical sense, particularly in these times of difficult trading.
Consequently, the Times will be incorporated into a greater, stronger Solihull News from week commencing July 13.
The new product will be bigger than either existing newspaper, with the Times brand continuing as a hefty business section within the News.
Importantly, the new product will also be far bigger and better than any competitor in the market, cementing our domination of the Solihull market for years to come.
