Channel swim for the children

SPORTY staff from a Solihull leisure centre will be attempting to swim the channel this week - from the comfort of their own pool.

Employees from Tudor Grange Leisure Centre will swim 1,320 lengths of the pool on Friday (Nov 20) to mark the equivalent distance from England to France and raise money for Children In Need.

Well-known Silhillian and previous channel swimmer Dr Chris Stockdale will kick off the challenge, while staff member Andrew Garfield - a Gold medallist from the recent Special Olympics in Leicester - will also take part.

Swimmers will take it in turns to contribute to making the distance, from beginners taking on a couple of lengths to more experienced counterparts tackling more than 150.

They will start splashing at 7am, aiming to finish by 10.30pm.

To support the team donate via www.justgiving.com/tudorgrangechannelswim or visit the centre in Blossomfield Road to drop some change into a collection bucket.
