THREE friends are putting on a charity event to raise much-needed funds for Help for Heroes.

Melissa Castle, from Solihull Lodge, has teamed up with her friends Emma Pugh and Jon Whelan to hold a charity night at the Slug and Lettuce.

A friend of George Cross-winner Matt Croucher, pictured, Melissa feels strongly about supporting our servicemen and women.

She also knows the family of James Munday - the Coleshill soldier who was killed in Afghanistan in 2008. He was just 21-years-old

“I knew about Help for Heroes before, but that really opened my eyes,” explained the 29-year-old.

“Since then I’ve run the Birmingham half marathon and I’m going to be doing the London Marathon this year.

“We hit upon the idea of having an event at the Slug and Lettuce and have been working with Steve Hands [from the Touchwood restaurant].”

A couple of soldiers, injured in the line of duty, will be guests of honour at the event - taking place on February 20.

It you’d like to go along, the event will be starting at 8pm.
