A GRUELLING journey through jungle, foothills and urban sprawls awaits a team of international fund raisers.

Heading up the adventure is Acocks Green teacher Karen Collins.

She has put together an intrepid group to take part in the Rickshaw Run - a 5,000km journey across Asia.

The group will have to cover the distance in just two weeks and hope that the effort will raise a handsome sum for charity.

Karen - who teaches English to schoolchildren around the world - heard about the event and encouraged some of her friends to take part.

The response was terrific and she has enlisted people from as far afield as Canada and Australia.

The team begin their trek on April 11 and will be finishing a fortnight later when they arrive in Goa.

Karen said: “We’re really look forward to the event, but we know it’s going to be tough. We’ve got to cover 5,000km and although you can tell yourself that it’s only a few hundred a day, we will be crossing difficult terrain and coping with the weather. Sponsorship money will go to two good causes - Frank Water Projects and SOS Children’s Villages.
