STAY one step ahead of the fashion pack with a new vintage line at the Cancer Research shop in Shirley.

Not just the haunt of grannies and maiden aunts, charity shops have come a long way, and are in fact ‘de rigeur’ for many students and fashionistas.

Tapping into the trend for all things retro, shop manager Rachel Taylor is excited about the new range, which has been a huge hit with regulars.

“Vintage is big. I am trying to get a different look for Shirley, and it’s very popular with people.

“We stock from the thirties era onwards, and in fact are desperate for more items, both vintage and for the rest of the store.”

Perusing the vintage rail was Cat Protection League employee, Melissa Horton, who shops regularly at charity stores.

She said: “I think it’s a brilliant idea to have a retro range. I buy clothes, and then get my mum to alter them for me.”

If you can spare a couple of hours as a shop volunteer call Rachel on 0121 733 6323.
