D-DAY veterans are being invited to enjoy a free tipple at a popular Meriden pub.

It’s 65 years since British troops landed on the beaches of Normandy - a crucial turning point in the Second World War. John Smedley, landlord of the Bulls Head, is offering a complimentary bottle of Liberation Ale to the ex-servicemen who took part in the campaign.

Staff at the Main Road premises hope that veterans will pop in to the watering hole and swap their stories. The aptly named Liberation Ale has been specially commisioned for the occasion.

Mr Smedley said: “The D-Day veterans are very special people and we would like to acknowledge their bravery by giving something back.”

Veterans can claim their free bottle from June 22 - which happens to be National Armed Forces Day.
