Children's book illustrator Korky Paul drew quite a crowd when he visited a local primary school for a workshop.

Korky, who illustrates Oxford University Press’s multi-million selling Winnie the Witch series, had launched a national competition, asking primary school children to design the blurb and front cover for a book about their home town. Recently, Yasmin Redmond, in Year 5 at St George & St Teresa Catholic Primary School, was named one of the two winning entries with her design, based on the cats of St Alphege. The prize was a visit and workshop by Yasmin’s favourite illustrator to her Bentley Heath-based school.

On March 11, Korky demonstrated his work in a special assembly before taking Yasmin’s class to the workshop, which taught some simple illustration techniques.

A school spokesman said: “The children produced some fantastic character illustration with support and inspiration from Korky.

“Well done to all our children who entered and special congratulations to Yasmin.”

The illustrator also created some sketches, which he presented to the school.
